Contemporary Nursing

The student examines issues facing the nursing professional today. Special emphasis will be placed on material necessary for a smooth transition from the role of nursing student toward that of a graduate nurse. Evidence based literature from a variety of sources is included to encourage the student to think critically about important issues. Historical perspectives, sociological/financial perspectives, legal, ethical, delegation, globalization, disaster management, management principles, leadership and political issues are discussed. The course is offered during the first 10 weeks of the semester and ends prior to the preceptorship in NURS 274.
